The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
Carmen: [voiceover] It would be easy to say that the pants changed everything that summer. But looking back now I feel like our lives changed because they had to, and that the real magic of the pants was in bearing witness to all of this and in somehow holding us together when it felt like nothing would ever be the same again.
Carmen: Some things never would be
Lena: But we know now that no matter how far we traveled on our own separate paths... Bridget: Somehow we would always find out way back to each other. T
ibby: And with that, we could get through anything.
Bridget: To us. Who we were, and who we are. And who we'll be.
Tibby: To the pants.
Lena: And the sisterhood.
Carmen: And this moment, and the rest of our lives.
Carmen, Lena, Bridget, Tibby: Together and apart.

The sisterhood of the traveling pants may seem to be another magical, teen film, or chick flick but there is more to seeing the movie than just reading the title. Just last week, I was lucky that I got to catch this highly engaging movie and once again feel its magic.
Basically, there are 4 teenage girls – Lena, Tibby, Carmen and Bridget – who are to begin their summer adventure alone and on their own. But before they left, they found a magical pair of jeans that amazingly fits them all. They made a promise or a rule that they will pass the pants to their sisters as a way of keeping in touch with one another. First stop was to Lena – with her Grandparents in Greece – then to Tibby who just stayed at home then to Bridget – In Mexico attending a soccer camp – and lastly to Carmen – with her father in North Carolina).
I actually found myself sobbing (again) after I watched the movie. I loved Carmen’s and Tibby’s storylines because maybe, I can relate to what they feel both inside and outside more than Lena’s and Birdget’s.
The story is wonderful, heartwarming and very touching. It is more mature and realistic compared to other films with their conflicts dealing with virginity, pimples, cliques and parties. It is friendship into another level.
Anyone who has experienced death, family problems, love failures or relationship problems can relate to this. The sisterhood of traveling pants deals with the fears and insecurities that young people feel as they come-of-age. We all have to deal with something – our bodies, problems, love, family, and death- and this movie tells us that we are not alone in dealing with these issues.
As the tagline goes, “Laugh, Cry, and share the pants…”, and you will find yourself doing that also.
