The Prestige

“Cutter: Every great magic trick consists of three acts. The first act is called "The Pledge"; The magician shows you something ordinary, but of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn"; The magician makes his ordinary some thing do something extraordinary. Now if you're looking for the secret... you won't find it, that's why there's a third act called, "The Prestige"; this is the part with the twists and turns, where lives hang in the balance, and you see something shocking you've never seen before.”
If you’re scared of surprises then this is not the movie for you. :)
The Prestige revolves around 2 magicians, Rupert Angier and Alfred Borden, who started as friends and eventually became rivals when Rupert’s wife was killed in a magic trick where Alfred was included. They tried to top one another as they try to decipher each other’s tricks and in the end ruin it. When the Transported Man, a magic trick by Alfred, was discovered, Rupert does everything just to uncover its secret even if it takes his life away.
Yes, if you are scared of surprises then this is not the movie for you because The Prestige has great amount of twist and turns that will leave you in shock. Initially, I found the early parts of the movie confusing and a bit boring for it kept on jumping into different timelines and introducing different people. However, as the story went further, I realized how important the introduction was for every part of it was an essential key to the story’s real meaning.
Also, have you noticed the technique they used in their storyline? They first introduced key elements that would later on be used to solve the mystery of the story, just like the movie, Back to the Future.
After the movie, I found myself overwhelmed by the key information they gave at the end. It answered all the questions that I had. Also, this, I can consider a dark movie because personally it was creepy enough to give me goose bumps.
Also, have you notice the movie’s length? I, personally, didn’t notice it which was over 2 hours when I checked it. Maybe because of the fast pacing of the story and the movie is really engaging that you would not really notice the time elapsing.
The storyline, the costumes, the script, the time (Victorian Era), the director, the actors and all the people behind the camera made The Prestige a “must-see” movie. :)
