Apocalypto

Apocaplyto, set in the Mayan civilization, is a story of a man in pursuit of his way to survive in his journey to Aztlan. It is also the story his tribe, the Mayans, surviving the powerful clasps of the same Aztecs.

Beforehand, I got a DVD of Apocalypto and I was really eager to watch it. I thought that it was a movie that I can endure, a lighthearted one despite its serious name. However, that eagerness quickly tainted. During one of our A.P. classes, we were able to see some clips of it and I absolutely terrified. I am easily scared when I see blood. Moreover, tormenting scenes make me weak and closing my eyes did not help because the sounds were more frightening.

Through the help of this movie and the previous lesson from media, I thoroughly realized the essence of sounds not only in media but around the world, too. The success of Horror flicks largely depends on its audio and without it; the movie would either be funny or dull.

I like the movie though even with the outrageous scenes. They may have shown brutality but the important thing was they were able to demonstrate the way of life of early civilizations.

If movies of today were like silent movies, what would our society be like? Thanks to the person who diminished those silent movies and now we are in, hip and cool with audio-visual movies. :)
